Splashing in the Puddles!
I ran about 20mins past the AIS and on to O'Connor Ridge and did a fartlek session on the hills as follows:
2 x 60secs fast/60secs slow
4 x 30secs fast/30secs slow
2 x 60secs fast/60secs slow
4 x 30secs fast/30secs slow
2 x 60secs fast/60secs slow
Then I continued running around the undulating trails before heading back home.

speedygeese sprints at Parliament House
Distance: 7.32km warm up plus 8.91 main session including extra cool down
Sprint Marathon Relay - Fun in the Sun!

Our team ran in 2:40:06 which wasn't too far behind the 5th team. It was all good fun.
My splits:
First 2km - 9:57 - average pace: 5:03
Third km - 5:02
Fourth km - 5:04
Fifth km - 5:10
Last 2km - 10:21 (average pace 5:25) - In the last km we had to wait for the last runner to catch up so that we could all run across the finish line together so this may have delayed the time a few seconds.
This made a total of 7km for the relay event.
However I also ran 1km to the start and a 3km warm up.

Total distance for week: 82km
I need to pick up the kms now as it appears that the National Capital Marathon will definitely go ahead on 2 May and I do want to run in it without disgracing myself!

Almost but not quite!

The last event of the night was the 3000m at 8pm. I felt better tonight and thought for a moment as I crossed the line that I had run under 15minutes but not quite - very close though so I'll just keep trying!

After all this we drove over to the triathlon site and joined the cheer squad for Jen_Runs and Mango who were racing the Olympic distance as a team. It was exciting to watch and of course we incorporated coffee while Mango was out on his run. We saw lots of familiar faces and caught up with friends - some from many moons ago - another good day. Mr B was a technical official on the back of a motorbike pinging those who were drafting on their bikes and sending them off to the penalty box where they had to wait 3 minutes - quite a number of culprits as it happened! There were six motorbikes with technical officials on the bike course!

Sunday - Drills
On Sat night I went with a friend to see Glen Campbell in concert. It was fantastic and scarily enough I knew nearly all the songs! On Sunday as I had a load of things to do in the morning we decided to do our drills session in the late afternoon. I met up with Jen, Janene and Ewen at Parliament House and off we ran for our warm-up run and drills session on the flat grass by the road near the portrait gallery. Lots of cars drove past but we just kept going probably providing plenty of entertainment!
Unfortunately I had to run off soon after the session started, back to PH carpark where the nearest toilets were situated and ended up missing part of the session but was still able to complete some strides, schoolyard skipping, tricky high knees, butt kicks and carioca - I think I might be improving just a little. Janene was a star at carioca. After a few wines I think we might be quite an act, just need to call LL to join us! We also ran a little session of forwards/backwards with Ewen clapping behind us to indicate a change of direction. It was all quite fun. Then off we ran to a steep hill on the west side PH where we ran 6 x 10 sec 'Brad Hudson' hill sprints with a full recovery between each sprint. After that we ran gently back to the start. It was a fun session and great company.
